Truett-Hurst Winery

The owners were looking for a habitat garden to complement their biodynamic winery, farm, and vineyard. I started by creating mounded planting areas in a natural, meandering fashion in this 100 foot by 100 foot area. It was flat, so I built topographic diversity for a feeling of enclosure of the space. This area was located in very hot, full sun, so I designed a pollarded mulberry grove to create shade for a seating area. By naturally inter-planting a lively combination of flowering shrubs, perennials, grasses and trees, I created a vital habitat of bees, butterflies, birds and other wildlife and pollinators. Plant it, and they will come!
